In June this year former Chewton icon, Stan Munro, drag queen and female impersonator extraordinaire, flew down especially from his home in northern NSW to give a free performance in aid of the Chewton pool. He was joined at the ‘Saucy Stan’ fundraiser concert by local blues singer Tracey Candy, who also donated her services free to aid the pool.
The night, held at the Chewton Senior Citizens hall, was a resounding success. Stan outdid himself with his dazzling attire, and sang many of his best loved favourites. The hall was packed to the rafters, so much so that people were hammering for tickets and being turned away right up until the last minute. A measure of how the audience were moved was the standing ovation Stan received at the end. Tracey also brought the house down with her numerous change of guises from sultry to sexy, with outfits to match, and a voice that could impersonate the best.
The final figures say it all. Over $4000 was raised in this one single night, including $630 from the raffle of the beautiful hand-sewn quilt. What a boost to the coffers of the fund-raising committee, whose tireless efforts helped make the evening such a success. Once again the Chewton pool touches the nerve of the community.
