Maxine Wade has always had an interest in creativity and trained as an Art teacher at Melbourne University, going on to teach in a variety of secondary colleges for 27 years. She then operated a picture framing business for 5 years, before beginning tutoring adults in watercolour, drawing, life drawing and mixed media at many art societies in Melbourne.
She has been a member of Australian Guild of Realist Artists, the Watercolour Society of Victoria, and more recently the Melbourne Society of Women Painters & Sculptors, and holds membership at a number of Shire arts groups across Melbourne and in Bendigo. Maxine has won many awards for her work in watercolour, and is represented in many public and private collections.
Maxine is currently living in Chewton and teaches one day workshops in her home studio. She also facilitates workshops and demonstrates at many Melbourne and regional art societies throughout the year. She recently held a very successful solo show at the Monster Art Space in Chewton and the foyer of the Phee Broadway Theatre in Castlemaine.
Maxine moved here from Prahran over 3 ½ years ago. Her great grandfather drove the train from the Goldfields to Bendigo carrying left overs from the diggings in Chewton (then Forest Creek alluvial diggings).
The mediums in which Maxine works are watercolour, inks, graphite and charcoal, and the two works in the Auction are in ink and watercolour.
“My first love will always be watercolour, and I have been influenced by many great artists in this medium. Its beauty and fluidity, with all its surprises – never fail to delight me – though it is a medium full of challenges.
Most recently, I have been exploring outside the traditional watercolour techniques by mixing a variety of media with watercolour, including inks and charcoal, which give some very beautiful effects and enhance the contrast and textures in my work – which have always been of prime interest to me.”
