This is one of a series of films made about aspects of Chewton history in the early 1990s. It features footage of the original Chewton Pool – an old mining site – and also of the current pool’s founding. Did you know that the intermediate pool dates only from the 90s? And under the wonderful decking is a tiny “babies pool”?
Also great footage of kids swimming in the late 1980s. The garden has grown in substantially now and it’s certainly well before anyone thought about shadecloth – there’s hardly any shade at all.
The swimming pool committee at the time included Norma and Jimmy Lynch – the third generation of Lynch’s are current pool members and put paid to the fact that Chewton needs its pool – there are generations of Chewton families who have swum here!
