‘Lixouri’ – Festival of Gardens

Local garden ‘Lixouri’ in Barkers Creek is one of the open gardens featured this coming November in the Castlemaine and District Festival of Gardens.  Margaret and Max Beyer who created and maintain the garden themselves, have generously donated one day of gate takings to Chewton Pool fundraising.

This week Margaret was advised that an ABC film crew would be visiting next Monday and Tuesday to film for Gardening Australia – so suddenly she and Max needed to prepare the garden visually within 5 days instead of over two months.  Because of her previous generous offer a number of Chewton Pool committee members popped over on the weekend to lend a hand – pruning, weeding, raking and transplanting to fill a few empty spots (though it was hardly needed).

The garden looks glorious and is still not in full spring bloom – the photos here were taken on Saturday 1st September – so come November it should be a magnificent sight.   We encourage one and all to visit the ‘Lixouri’ during the Festival of Gardens and take in the delights of spring, preferably on Monday 5th as that is our day for gate takings!
